As the Teacher, you will plan and implement activities for children that stress physical, social, and emotional growth and provide materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in active play. You will prepare materials and classrooms for class activities and conduct all activities in a safe, organized, and productive manner. You will work hard, but will have fun while doing so. In addition, we can help you grow professionally through mentorships, education assistance, and training.
We define a teacher is defined as a person who is a member of the teaching team with primary responsibility for a group or classroom of children. For the purpose of this document, a group or classroom is defined by NAEYC criteria as a maximum group size for children in an age group or developmental age. An example of this classification: a preschool classroom licensed for 20 children would have 1 teacher with responsibility over the entire classroom, and also acting as the primary caregiver for a group of up to 10 children, as well as overseeing other staff in that group or classroom who may have responsibility for a small group, i.e. 4 infants, 5 young toddlers, etc., of an age or developmental level. The teacher must spend the vast majority of the time with one group of children who attend at the same time rather than divide time between classrooms or float between groups. A representative list of duties and responsibilities is as follows:
o Obtains required continuing education hours and maintains necessary documentation.
o Conducts weekly team meetings for classroom planning, child individualization, and task delegation.
o Attends staff meetings, required trainings, and other center events.
o Demonstrates knowledge of ages and stages of development. Understands the general areas of physical, social, cognitive and emotional development for designated age group.
o Demonstrates flexibility and openness to new ideas in child care practices.
o Establishes and maintains relationships of cooperation and respect with all co-workers and families.
o Assumes a fair share of work. Looks for ways to be helpful. Demonstrates initiative.
o Offers and shares ideas and materials with all co-workers.
o Communicates directly, works to resolve conflicts quickly and avoids gossip.
o Staff communicates with each other to ensure smooth operations.
o Collaborates with families and community agencies to assure smooth child transitions.
o Abides by all stated HLC policies and procedures.
o Commits to NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
Our program employs and supports a teaching staff that has the educational qualifications, knowledge, and professional commitment necessary to promote children's learning and development and to support families' diverse needs and interests. The criteria in the five NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards that focus on children (relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment and health) make the clear link that the quality of children's experiences in center settings is determined in large part by the quality of the teacher and teaching staff.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
